A Heartfelt Gift from St. Cecelia’s 2nd Grade
Turning Art into Action
This year, the annual Empty Bowl Project was extra special for the 2nd grade students at St. Cecelia Catholic School. Through this hands-on service learning initiative, these young artists used their talents to make a real impact. They painted and glazed ceramic bowls in art class, each one uniquely adorned with a colorful heart motif.
The bowls were then sold to raise funds for hunger relief, and the students raised over $1,300 in the process. But it wasn’t just about the money, it was about the purpose.
Supporting Corinne’s Food Pantry
The students chose to donate their earnings to Corinne’s Food Pantry, a local nonprofit founded in 2020 in memory of Corinne Winder, a home healthcare nurse who was passionate about feeding those in need.
This pantry holds a special place in the hearts of St. Cecelia’s community, as it is now run by Rosanne Ryan, a former student and teacher at the school. Mrs. Ryan visited the 2nd graders to personally thank them, sharing stories, photos, and a powerful message: that seeds of service planted early in life can grow into a lifetime of giving.
She even showed the students a photo of her own 3rd grade class at St. Cecelia’s from 1960, making the moment truly full circle.
